March Principal's Message

Ways to Help Your Child Enjoy School

At some point all children end up disliking school for one reason or another. In some cases it is because of the teacher, in other cases it is because they are being teased by other students. As a matter of fact, I am currently working on another endorsement and I’m really not enjoying the current instructor or the subject matter but I know it will pass. I’ve done this before and I have dealt with this same problem with my own children.

The bottom line is that they all children experience it. But there are several things you can do as parents in order to help your child get back on track to enjoying school. Following are a few suggestions in order to help you with this process.

Get involved. You should be involved in your child’s school life. This includes taking the time to talk to them about their day. Find out how they are treated by the other kids, and find out how they are treated by the teachers. You need to be aware of everything that they are involved.

• Sign them up for extracurricular activities. One way to get kids to enjoy school more is to get them involved in more after school activities. This will not only help them to become more athletic but will make their days more enjoyable since they will have something to look forward to.

• Create your own home projects. Sometimes when children are having difficulty in a particular subject they then begin to dislike school. If you find this to be the problem with your child, why not take the time to research the subject or topic they are having trouble with and create a fun at home project that you can do together. This will show them how fun learning can actually be.

• Teach your child how to make real friends. Some children do not know how to make real friends. You may think that this is an easy task, but for some children it can be very difficult.

• Find out where the problem lies. If you take the time to get to the root of the problem then you will be able to help them. In order to do this you have to communicate with your child on a daily basis.

• Show them the fun side of learning. In order for any child to enjoy learning they first have to see how enjoyable and fun it can be. Take the time to find ways to bring out the fun side of learning in every subject.

If you need extra help please ask for help from myself or Mrs. Rose, our school counselor. Please make arrangements by calling the school at 257-2590.

Thanks again for your support!
