September Principal's Message

Happy New Year!

Welcome to the 2010-2011 school year! I hope that all of you had a wonderful summer. I can’t wait to hear about all of your adventures! As always, I am looking forward to watching our students grow to be all that they can be at McKinley Elementary.School. It’s a great school with great students, great staff, great parents, and great support.

We will continue with the “Be a PRO” program and I feel it is very fitting, because we are committed to implementing more into our students’ learning, behavior, and citizenship.. The staff at McKinley Elementary will strive to build on each other’s strengths as we work toward our students’ educational goals.

We have more exciting news for the 2010-2011 school year! It is my pleasure to announce new additions to the faculty. Please join me in welcoming Shauna Coombs and Tammy Bench as our new Speech and Language Pathologists. These ladies have had many years of experience and we are lucky to have them with us. We also have Bertha Mabey joining us in our kitchen. She is a fun person to be around and does a good job. We will also be adding some new aides so when you see a new face stop and introduce yourself.

This year our district’s budget cut has challenged all schools to think of new ways we can continue to provide the same quality of education and services with less money involved. I am confident we can do this and as we work as a team we will be successful.

There has been a lot of news of schools that did not make Adequate Yearly Progess (AYP) this past year with the new standards set by the federal government. The state of Utah did better than the nation but only 60% of the schools in the entire state met AYP for th 2010 – 2011 year.compared to 80% the year before. I am happy to say the McKinley Elementary School did make AYP and this is something to be proud of. Again, this took the support of staff, parents, and the community along with the hard work of the students.

All of our families are an important and a valued part of the McKinley Elementary School community. We truly appreciate your participation and support that you have so generously provided. We will have many innovative academic/instructional plans, activities, and events in this school year. We appreciate your input and volunteer work. Please feel free to call, email, or stop by if you have a concern, question, or just want to share some exciting news about your child.

As always, Be a PRO!

Sincerely,
Steve Chadaz, Principal
